Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice Sadhana: A Practice of Devotion

Tuesday, June 21, 2022
6:15 – 7:45am PST

Virtual Workshop

The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year, the time of the year when we are at the peak of Solar or Yang energy. It provides us with the opportunity to celebrate the sun (Surya) as a visible form of the Divine and the giver of Prana. In Yoga the sun is viewed as the spiritual heart of the world, just like our own heart is viewed as our inner sun and the place of true wisdom that comes from within. Surya is also a symbol of Truth and the awakener of consciousness. Thus when we bow to Surya, we are awakening the deeper spiritual truths we hold within our own hearts.

Some questions to consider for contemplation before the solstice could be:

  • What could you let go of to create space for a more conscious way of life?

  • How do you want to be using your prana, your sacred life force energy?

  • Where do you want to place your attention?

Realizing the interconnectivity of all life as our starting ground:

  • Can we commit towards awakening not for our own sake, but for the sake of others and our planet?

  • Our ego may resist and want us to turn away when we get tired and overwhelmed, but the spiritual warrior is savvy to the tricks of the ego and the mind. Can we as individuals look towards the archetype of the spiritual warrior for inspiration and transform our actions to usher in a new reality of equality, peace and upliftment?
