Yoga Bhoga Event

During the time of the longest night, let’s unite virtually with yogis across the globe to celebrate the important Winter Solstice of 2020!  Our guides, Meghan Maris & Anne Witmer, will lead us through a ritual repetition of 108 sun salutations followed by a deep, yin practice & meditation.  Together we will generate potent energy and direct it to bring more light and healing into the world.

The Winter Solstice has long been recognized as an auspicious day as it signifies both an ending and a beginning. Nicknamed the longest night, the winter solstice marks the end of fall and the beginning of winter. It is also the transition point from the apex of the darkest days of the year into the gradual shift of the light returning to the northern hemisphere.

It has become a tradition for the yogis to practice 108 Sun Salutations on the solstice as the salutations are a physical moving prayer and offering. At Yoga Bhoga, we would typically build an altar in the middle of the floor and all of the students fan out like rays of the sun. This year, we will practice on the virtual platform, but each of us can create our own simple altar or have an offering in front of our mats.

Participants are encouraged to hold their prayers and intentions within their mind as they bow to the sun 108 times. The salutations are followed by a yin practice to allow the mind and body to soften and enter into a serene state of receptivity. This practice is beloved by the community. We would be honored for you to join us from all over the country and beyond!
